After nearly a decade, an unexpected phone call shakes Dia out of her dance rehearsal in New York. Makarand, her guru, is dying and she must return to Shamli -- the town where she grew up, the town where she learnt to live and to dance. Also the town she left on an impulse, severing ties with her parents and her people. It is a poignant and troubled return; as Ajanta, the institution that her guru so lovingly nurtured is under threat of demolition because the local political authorities feel it a waste of prime real estate. Dia sets out on a mission to prevent the destruction and resurrect the spirit of Ajanta. In an atmosphere of mistrust, ridicule and active hostility, Dia agrees to achieve the near impossible task and for this she has only two months or the bulldozers will be waiting

تدور أحداث الفيلم حول (ديا) هي معلمة رقص هندي تقليدي تعيش في نيويورك تصلها رسالة من معلمتها التي علمتها الرقص في قريتها مسقط رأسها تسافر إليها لتكتشف وفاتها مع وصية لها بأن تنقذ مركز الفنون الذي تعلمت فيه الرقص قبل أن يتم هدمه وتحويله إلى مركز تجاري تفاجأ بعدم حماس أهل قريتها ومعاملتها بجفاء مما يصعب مهمتها يعدها عمدة البلدة بالإبقاء على المركز إذا نجحت عروضها الراقصة في جذب سكان قريتها
