Tension grew between them, angering Alanna

"Hate me if you want." The grooves near Rolt's mouth deepened sardonically. "But you will be mine--in every way!"

Alanna gasped with surprise. Rot's boldness was unbelievable. He knew that she was in love with Kurt. How could he have the audacity to claim his brother's girl?

Well, this was one time the arrogant, egotistical Rolt Matthews wouldn't get what he wanted, Alanna thought defiantly. She just wouldn't cooperate. No matter what he said, Rolt couldn't make her marry him against her will . . . .

Luke Elliot was one of the word's big business tycoons-a living legend; but a legend that was impossible to live with. They had not met since-but now Luke had turned up again and suggested that she go over to the states to meet him with a view to discussing divorce.

He proposed--but it was to her sister!

And Eleanor was devastated, because she was in love with him, too. Never again, she vowed, would she let herself become so vulnerable.

But then she met Edward Mansel, who was too handsome, wealthy and experienced to look twice at a poor parson's daughter.

Well, why should she care if he thought she was a straitlaced goody-goody? It wasn't as if she was attracted to him. Anyway, she wasn't about to make the same mistake again....

"When I have finished with you, sweet icy girl," Stefan said grimly, "Damoskinos will have the anguish of knowing that you have endured the ultimate at my hands!"

Alice Sheldon was trapped on a lonely island in the Aegean, kidnapped by a man intent on avenging the murder of his fiancee. Haunted by the ghost of a tragic love, he meant to make Alice his instrument of revenge.

How could she convince him that Damoskinos didn't even know of her existence?

Soren ruined all her plans

Lin Blake had a special mission in coming to work on the Wingard family farm in New Zealand. But for personal reasons that mission had to remain a secret.

She hadn't counted, however, on meeting someone like Soren Wingard. He both frightened and attracted her, and he was suspicious of her from the start.

Lin accomplished her mission--but at what a cost. Only heartbreak could come from her falling in love with Soren....

Tamsyn fought down the surge of emotion

Grant Chapman was rich, powerful and dangerous. They said he took his pleasures where he pleased. Tamsyn felt almost as if she were destined to hate this man.

But why did he affect her so deeply? Right from their first meeting she'd been unreasonably afraid of him. Was it really only the spell of the South Sea island?

Tamsyn checked her thoughts abruptly. She was here temporarily to do a job. And besides there was John. Surely it wasn't possible to be engaged to one man and desire another. Or was she just fooling herself...?

by fountains wild

"What is there in marriage for a woman? I wouldn't marry the best man breathing!" declared Kim--and meant it. Married women, she was convinced, were downtrodden, exploited, at the mercy of their selfish husbands, and she wanted no part of it.

So she was ready to lend a sympathetic ear to her friend Vicky, when Vicky begged for her help in ending her engagement to the formidable-sounding Julian Parnell. Kim evolved what she thought was a brilliant plot to corn promise Julian and get Vicky out of the impossible situation; but the plot misfired or a grand scale and instead Kim found herself whisked off to the middle of Wales with Julian, married against her will to a man she scarcely knew and certainly did not care for.

Was Kim's own marriage going to turnout like all those others she so despised?

"I would just like to make it quite clear," Simon smiled grimly, "that I am not running a charity. I expect to be fully rewarded for what I do, and don't you forget it, my dear Liza." His words rang in Liza's ears. This man was devious. Her eyes sparkled with angry resentment but she couldn't afford to indulge in hurt pride. For the time being, Simon must be allowed to think what he would.

Vivien ignored her relatives' advice. Some inner conviction compelled Vivien to visit Malaya. She felt her godfather had a reason for leaving her his home and only there would she find the answer. Bewildered by the strangeness of the East, she was even more confused by her godfather's closest friend, Dr. Tom Stransom. He was alternately aloof and friendly, teasing and sarcastic--and apparently quite indiffferent to the feelings he aroused in her.

Miranda was delighted when her boss asked her to accompany him on a business cruise to the Caribbean, even though she knew the whole purpose of the trip was a large take-over bid and that there would be as much work as play.

But when it came to sweet-talking one Roger Gallant, she realized she had taken on more than she could manage. Roger was clearly in the habit of taking what he wanted and then throwing it away -- and it did look as if Miranda was going to be his latest victim!

Could she change his mind about women?

Fraser Mallory was an accomplished geologist, handsome and virile. His attitude toward women was daunting. So in order to join his Kalahari expedition, Corey Latimer masqueraded as a male photographer.

Her little ploy worked well as they made their way into the steamy African bushland. Then, as Fraser's magnetism took hold of Corey's senses, she regretted deceiving him. She was a woman, and in spite of Fraser's reputation she wanted him to know it.

But the consequences were far more dangerous than she'd imagined....

Yet, surprisingly, Thea soon found herself running the household at Drumlarig and nursing its surly owner, Logan Murray. When in the delirium of illness, Logan mistook her for his dead wife and kissed her passionately, Thea thought she would flee. Contempt flashed from Morgan's eyes

And his attitude puzzled Susannah. Was it jealousy that made him so sarcastic whenever she went to see John?

If it was, she could see no reason for it. Morgan had made it plain that his heart's desire lay only in taking over the estate owned by her family -- not in trying to win Susannah.

Ruthless and ambitious, Susannah had labeled him. Yet in her heart she knew it wasn't true!

Shani's words struck like a mortal blow!

"David married you out of chivalry." Shani pointed to the scar marring Sabina's cheek. "Why else would he marry a woman who looks like you?" Her full mouth quivered with distaste. "Your looks wouldn't inspire passion in a man!"

Calmly Sabina met Shani's scornful gaze. "Marriage isn't based on sudden lust or a need for an affair," she said huskily. "It's based on love. David married me because he loves me."

But in her heart Sabina knew that she was convincing neither Shani nor herself....

Everyone depended on poor little "Mouse"

Ginny's nickname didn't really suit her - she was the strong one in the family. Her sense of responsibility led her to take the job of housekeeper at Monk's Dower.

It was no easy task. Not only did she have to contend with her suspicious, jealous employer, Vivien Lanyon, she also had to please Vivien's tenant, the famous playwright, Max Hendrick.

At first Max was imperious, demanding - but then he seemed to sense Ginny's predicament. He extended a helping hand, but only in pity. And pity was not what Ginny wanted from Max Hendrick -- not at all!

Her love was doomed before it had begun

Rick Howarth was "too" everything: too old, too sophisticated, too experienced, and most of all, too married!

But none of that prevented eighteen-year-old Robyn Castle from falling in love with him. Not that she knew he was married. That was one little detail Rick hadn't mentioned.

When Robyn found out, she soon realized that she could never be the "other woman" in Rick's life, so she firmly resolved to give up the only man she would ever love....

Abby was shocked at Giles Farrow's words. True, his aunt Matilda Bateman had taken Abby under her wing on Abby's dream holiday to India.

But Abby hadn't been kind to the elderly woman just because Miss Bateman was really Mattie Bates, famous and wealthy detective-story writer. Abby hadn't even known.

It was bad enough to have to put up with Giles's poor opinion of her, his searing eyes that regarded her so accusingly. It was worse to have to admit that he was the most attractive man she'd ever had the misfortune to meet!

Forbidden Rapture by Violet Winspear

http://www.liillas.com/up3//uploads/...cdabc3c315.jpg

When Della Neve went on a Mediterranean cruise she wanted a rest, not a holiday romance. Her future was already bound to Marsh Graham, the fiance to whom she owed everything -- who had brought her up, moulded her into a great star, and who loved her deeply.

But on board ship Della met Nicholas di Fioro Franquila, a charming, rakish, devastating man of the world who treated women as playthings. Nevertheless, Della began to find herself falling for him as all his other women did; to become gradually aware that in Nicholas she was finding something that was missing in her relationship with Marsh -- rapture, perhaps?

But even if Nicholas should see her as some-thing more than just another conquest, how could she think of him when she owed Marsh so much?

Only because her young brother had entered her name in the contest had she agreed to go along with the plans when she was declared the winner.

When the fantasy man became a flesh-and-blood one Quincy realized she'd fallen for his charm. But one glimpse of his sophisticated fishbowl life made her deny the dictates of her heart....

Perri had come here to Coorain, in the Dead Heart of Australia's Outback, to work. She was here with her uncle's anthropological team to study the customs and legends of the aborigines -- not to teeter on the brink of disaster with a man like Gray Faulkner, the cattle baron and Boss of Coorain.

For disaster it would be, Perri knew. Certainly there was no denying that she had fallen in love with him, more or less on sight; to some extent, she knew, Gray was attracted by her. But it was no use pretending that it amounted to anything more than a passing physical attraction. Perri didn't fit into the Outback way of life at all.

If and when Gray wanted a wife, he would surely choose Kim Talbot, who was so clearly being groomed for the position . .
